BILIRAN ISLAND

According to folklore, Biliran derived its name from the native grass - Borobiliran - which was abundant on the plains during the Pre-Spanish period. Long before this era, seafearers passing through the narrow straits of Biliran, separating mainland of Leyte and the island of Biliran, had noticed the fertile plains and the lush green hills of the island.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Sambawan Island 

Location: Maripipi; About 1 hour and 30 minutes boat ride from Naval.

White sandy beach; it has two main islets rich in marine life and coral gardens; At high tides, Sambawan is transformed into three beautiful islets. Sambawan Island is one of Biliran's sites for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Higatangan Island

Location: The fastest way to get to Higatangan Island by 45 mins boat ride from Naval to Mabini or Libertad port. fare: 35php for Student - regular fare 40php

Moving sand bar extending about 200 meters to the sea; one huge coral rock-a reef that was thrust up from the ocean's floor centuries ago. The fields are studded with gigantic clam shells measuring up to a meter wide. The island has several white sand beaches sprinkled with exotic shells newly washed up from the seabed. Facing an open sea, the white sand beach, cool pristine waters and exotic rock formations of Higatanangan Island is itself nature at its best.

HOW TO GET THERE

Biliran is an island province located on the eastern part of the Visayas group of island. The province belongs to Region VIII, the Eastern Visayas Region. It lies with the geographic coordinates between latitude 11째 28'00'' to 11째 50'00'' and longitude 124째37'00'', It is bounded on the south by Caragara Bay, Samar Sea on the east, North by the Visayas Sea and the strait of Biliran on the West.

DZR Airport, Tacloban City, Leyte

Major Carriers serve direct Manila-Tacloban flight twice a day. From Tacloban City, aircon shuttle vans and ordinary fare buses are available in going to Naval, capital of Biliran Province.

Mactan International Airport, Mactan, Cebu

Nearest international airport, also serves direct flight from Manila. From Cebu City, fast crafts are available daily to Ormoc City, where aircon shuttle vans connect the trip to Naval, Direct voyage to Naval is available 3 times a week.
