Maasin City is one of the newly developed tourist destinations in the Philippines. It has captured both locals and foreigners. Below are informations you might need as you explore the beauty and the thrill of the "Land of the Salt". Enjoy!

Maasin City is the capital city of Southern Leyte, Philippines. A fourth class city with 70 barangays, it is located on the western part of the province with land area of 21,171 hectares (52,310 acres).

Maasin City is the commercial and religious center of Southern Leyte and the south western part of Leyte Island. On August 10, 2000, Maasin was converted into a city. The Diocese of Maasin was founded on August 14, 1968.

Maasinhons speak either the Cebuano language or its dialect of Bohol, Boholano. Their cultural and linguistic affinities tend to differ them from those who reside in Cebu, Bohol, and the western coast of the province of Leyte. Most of the people are farmers and fishermen who are noted for their hard work and frugality.

Places of Interest:

Kuting Reef is considered as one of Southern Leyte's most intimate secrets. It is situated in a private cove at Bgy Asuncion in the town of Macrohon. For many years, only a few people knew about the existence of a fine pebble beach within a 3-hectare property covered by bermuda grass and planted with tall 30 to 40 year old coconut trees. Kuting Reef gives you an exclusive, luxurious and yet relaxed tropical resort experience. It is a nice place to bond with your family and friends.

Maasin has a lot of hidden wonders. Beautiful falls, virgin caves, white sandy seacoasts and a lot more that could make your visit memorable. Visit Maasin and create memories that last a lifetime.

Roads

The existing road network crisscrossing Southern Leyte consists of major arterial highways that link to the province of Leyte, passing through two major outlets - on the western part, the Maasin-Mahaplag-Baybay route; and, on the central part, the Mahaplag-Sogod route via the Maharlika Highway.
