MANILA, Philippines - An Israeli tourist landed in jail Sunday after joking he had a bomb in his baggage at the Mactan Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City.
Radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported the joke proved costly for Eliav Goali, 23, after Police Civil Aviation Security (PCAS) personnel quickly arrested him and brought him for questioning.
Goali, who was heading for Australia to be with his girlfriend, had reached the final security check when he jokingly said he had a bomb in his shoe.
Police found no bomb in his shoes or baggage, but detained Goali despite his protests for violating Presidential Decree 1727 that outlaws bomb jokes.
* Joking something especially a bomb during inspection at the airport is totally offensive. It's not something to be joked about because it would cause riot especially to those people who might hear and get panicked. So one must not joke about explosives. *
