With the Christmas season approaching, text scammers are expected to be more in tricking victims to give their credit card numbers and other personal information. So, the DTI offers tips vs text messaging scams.
The DTI said most of the text messages become obvious since they offer quick cash or a house and lot, or a new car, even if the recipient of the text message never took part in a raffle.
DTI give some clue on how to know if the text message is scam because the source of the text messages is an ordinary 11-digit cellphone number instead of the special four digit. Second, is that the message would claim that the recipient won in a raffle they never took part. Third, is that they ask the recipient to claim the prize quickly wherein most promos usually give 60 days allowance to claim the prize. Other scammers will ask you to load them a 300 load in their number for them to talk about more information regarding their promos.
I had experienced this kind of situation before wherein I receive a text message telling me that I won 500,000 pesos but i know I never join any raffle and I have heard about this situation on TV. The scammer asked me 300 worth of load and so I told him to stop sending me scam messages or else I will give his number to the authorities and then the scammer didn't reply to me.
