-- Past the new sheen and vibrant colors of "Galema: Anak ni Zuma" as a 2013 TV series, viewers
will find that the qualities that endeared them to the original "komiks" that made waves in the '80s
are all intact.
This was the assurance of director Wenn Deremas in describing the upcoming
ABS-CBN fantaserye, which is set to debut this month.
The new series starring Andi Eigenmann is based on the hit serialized Pinoy komiks tale by Jim Fernandez,
which rose to popularity with the 1985 big-screen take starring Snooky Serna.
ABS-CBN's "Galema," as in the film, centers on the good-hearted young woman as she struggles
to live with a curse she inherited from her father Zuma.
Born with a two-headed snake attached to her neck, Galema seeks to live a normal life,
as well as the acceptance and love of the people surrounding her.
This isn't the first time Deramas is translating to television a well-loved Philippine comic book,
as he helmed the hit adaptation of the Pablo Gomez creation "Kampanerang Kuba" in 2005.
Deramas also directed several episodes of the 2006 weekend anthology "Komiks,"
which is based on various serial classics centering on heroes and supernatural beings.
