"SANGYAW FESTIVAL"

 Tacloban City

Sangyaw Festival is a religious and

socio-cultural event in the Philippines.

It was revived in 2008 by the city government of

Tacloban, Philippines. Sangyaw means

 "to herald news" in Waray language.

Various festival-participants from different parts of the

country participate in this tribal procession.

 It was held a day before

 the city fiesta. The festival was first held in

1974 but was cancelled in 1987.

Sangyaw in the local dialect (Eastern Visayas)

means "proclamation" or "popular". The world in

its truest sense means "a region and a people's

testament of their self-identities and

their vitality. The intangible factors like

 pride in their homeland, their intense spirituality,

their zest for life, their sense of pride and

dignity, their love for freedom, their scale

of values and their awareness of the past-are

their most single important resource in

their journey towards the future. "

San Juanico Bridge

San Juanico Bridge, which is 2.16 kilometres

 (1.34 mi) long and connects the islands of

 Leyte and Samar across the San Juanico

Strait, is the longest bridge in the Philippines.

The bridge was not significantly damaged

due to Typhoon Haiyan. It is currently one

of the critical gateways for the transportation

of relief goods and the evacuating refugees.
