GASANG-GASANG FESTIVAL
Gasang-gasang Festival is a yearly colorful Easter Sunday
festival in the town of Gasan, province of Marinduque. It is in
celebration of the origin of the name of the town "Gasan",
which came from the term "Gasang-Gasang", a type of coral
that used to be seen around the town's shoreline.
Accompanied by live marching band, contingents dressed in
colorful costumes and indigenous materials, danced in full
spirit to the beat of the drums as they paraded along the
major streets of Gasan which started at 8:00 in the morning.
"Viva El Kristo", as shouted by the participants
can be heard in celebration of the Risen Christ.
Several contingents from different barangays
danced in jubilation at the street dancing and
ground competition held at Gasan's Guingona Park.
Gasang gasang is the most popular festival of the said town
and it occurs during Easter Sunday. The Easter festival will
feature an agro-industrial fair showcasing native food and
handicrafts; a memorable putungan welcome ritual for tourists
and balikbayans, the daily rhythmic clop and crack of kalutang
and drum players, a must-see pugutan stage presentation on
Black Saturday and the popular street-dancing parade on
Easter Sunday.
