Three people were wounded, including a 10-year-old boy and his mother, after a mall security guard accidentally fired his handgun shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
Police Officer 2 Leroy Baguio identified one of the victims as Jason Lureñana, 38.
Initial investigation showed that Abraham Duran 43, a security guard of Elizabeth Mall (E-Mall) in Cebu City, was about to turn over his service firearm when the incident happened.
"Patungo siya sa kainan. Itu-turn over niya sa lady guard na ka-relyebo 'yung baril nang biglang pumutok. Tumama sa sahig 'yung bala at yung mga splinter tumama sa biktima," Baguio said in a phone interview with GMANews.TV.
[Duran was about to have lunch. He was turning over his firearm to a fellow guard when it accidentally went off. The bullet hit the floor and the splinters hit the victims.]
Asked why the gun was cocked, Baguio quoted Duran as saying that he got used to doing it because he was also guarding the bank beside the mall entrance.
The police official said the 10-year-old victim was hit on the neck while his mother was hit on the stomach. They were rushed to Chung Hua Hospital for treatment.
Lureñana, who was slightly wounded on the arm, declined to go the hospital.
* Men with firearms should be careful with their gun. They really could hurt someone even they don't intend to be careful. They could take some else life and even though it's an accident, they could still get charges for this certain act because they have harmed somebody. *
