A hiphop urban fairy-tale in mixed media about an aspiring graffiti artist named DJ who arrives in a garbage
island of the big city. At first joining the local gang, DJ quickly falls afoul of the gang leader Tikboy even as
falls in love with the islands prettiest girl Josie. The conflict that ensues between his artists, rappers and
dancers and the drug-dealing gang results in a human cockfight or pintakasi. We can paint our tomorrow! the
islanders declare, inspired by DJ, the magical boys dream. But in a slum where everyone owes the gang lord a
of gratitude more costly than mere money, DJ must first liberate Josie from the debt she owes Tikboy. He must
fight off the amiable granny (Lola) who turns out to be the syndicate boss. He has to convince his kind but
uncle, the dancing policeman, that he need not be devoured by the rotting system. Finally he has to prove to
the jaded villagers, including his beloved Josie, that there is an honest way to eke a living in this island of
misery. In a final showdown with Tikboy, DJ proves that art conquers all. Trivia Most of the character names
refer to Philippine heroes: Apol from Apolinario Mabini; Andoy from Andres Bonifacio; and Josephine from
Josephine Bracken. Part of the title, Pinta (paint), was also patterned after Jose Rizal who is a painter.
PINTAKASI is about a young painter who arrives at an island made of garbage. He uses the island and its
denizens as his canvas and fights to protect the island from forces that threaten it.
