            The Story and Songs of Spongecola

Spongecola is a popular pinoy rock band, composed of 4 talented members. It was formed in year 2002. Ysmael ���Yael��� Y. Yuzon is

the lead vocalist at the same time handles the rhythm guitar.

Reynaldo ���Gosh��� R. Dilay is the bass guitarist and the back-up

vocalist. Erwin ���Armo��� N. Armovit is the lead guitarist and

Christopher ���Chris��� L. Cantada is also with back-up vocals and

operates the drums.

Yael Yuzon met Gosh Dilay in Ateneo High School���s theatre guild, Teatro Baguntao. Yael was the front man of a band White Chapel

yet he decided to build his own band together with Gosh. They

called their band Sponge after R.S. Surtee���s Mr. Sponge���s Sporting Tour and won many competitions thus increasing their

popularity not just in their schools but also in other campuses. Some members were replaced by Chris Cantadaand Armo Armovit.

Though, they heard about Detroit grunge band using Sponge as their name, they still preserved their name because people get

used to it. They just add Cola for easy remembrance. 

Sponge Cola, often spelled Spongecola, is a Filipino rock band

formed in 2002.Original drummer Chris Cantada left the group due to his worsening health condition. Wendell Garcia of bands Archipelago and Pupil, and Ted Mark Cruz who plays drums for bands

Happy Meals and The Out of Body Special fill in as sessionists after Cantada���s departure. However in late 2009, Cruz was confirmed to be a permanent member of the band filling in as the new

drummer.

The band won 99 awards in the 2007 MYX Music Awards besting other OPM acts in both Favorite Artist and Favorite Group categories. Bitiw was voted as both Favorite Song and Favorite Rock

Video.

Sponge Cola became the first Philippine band to release its new album in music player form. All songs, including those in the

past albums are included in the music players which come in both MP3 and MP4 format. They launched said music players last

January 4 with their new single, "Di Na Mababawi", at ABS-CBN���s ASAP.
