Filipino singer, songwriter and a musical director. He is the voice behind the
hit song “Kanlungan” after it graced in the advertisement. With his voice full
of depth and very expressive, he is considered as one of the best singers of the
country.
Hailing from a small town in La Union called Rosario, Noel Cabangon grew up in a modest family. Looking back to his childhood days, he usually entertained his parents’ guest by performing in front of them. He grew up lack of confidence and fearedperforming in public and joining every singing competition. Not knowing
that his combined skills in singing and songwriting would eventually launched him into someone being respected and appreciated.
During 1982,the name Noel Cabangon was familiar as a folksinger. Since then,
he is visible in different bars, lounges, folk houses and concerts in Metro Manila. Noel has also performed in several concerts outside the country. On ‘80s,
he was active in the concert circuits here and abroad including France, Hong
Kong, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Geneva and Brazil. On 1987,
together with Rom Dongeto and Rene Boncocan, Noel formed a folk group, Buklod
and released three albums: Bukid at Buhay, Tatsulok and Sa Kandungan ng
Kalikasan. On 1994, the group however disbands after series of shows outside the
country.
His songwriting skill is as aggressive as in his singing and doesn’t want to be just hidden at the back. His composition “Dito Sa Kanto” was an entry for 1999 MetroPop Music Festival and made it to the finals. His songs “Ikaw Ay Bayani” and “Ikaw Lang” were entries of Himig Handog Sa Bayaning Pilipino 2000 and in Asian Songwriting Festival Local Search respectively and both made it to the finals.
Acknowledging his flair, Noel began writing songs for big-time artists like
Agot Isidro, Randy Santiago, Nikki Gil and Dingdong Avanzado to name the few and
even composed songs in relation to the topics of show, Debate of GMA Network.
Noel’s fifth and his latest album was released on 2006 bearing the title Himig
Nating Pag-Ibig. Released under independent label, Ballyhoo Records, the album and its 15 songs is a collection of mostly original works, speaking not just
love but also other aspects.
Aside from being a singer-composer, Noel Cabangon is also recognized as an
active member of Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA) as music
director or as one of the casts of some plays.
