The 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)
is a part of the annual film festival in Metro Manila, Philippines
that will be held from December 25, 2012 until the first week of January 2013.
During the festival, no foreign films are shown in Philippine theaters
in order to showcase locally produced films.
On the last week of May, film producers and companies
already submitted their scripts in participation with the festival.
However, it will still be reviewed by the
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to sort out entries.
Of the 15 film entries submitted, 8 were chosen as the official entries.
Here are the 8 official entries:
1. El Presidente
Is an upcoming bioepic film about Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo,
the first president of the Philippine Republic.
The film stars E.R. Ejercito in the lead title role, with Cesar Montano,
Christopher de Leon, Nora Aunor, and Cristine Reyes in supporting roles,
together with a powerhouse all-star cast. It is produced by Scenema Concept International.
It is one of the official entries for the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival
and will be released in theaters nationwide on December 25, 2012.
The film will be produced by Scenema Concept International,
CMB Films and Viva Films, together in cooperation with the San Miguel Group of Companies,
Petron, Boys Scouts of the Philippines, Las Casas Filipinas de Azucar and
the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
2. One More Try
Is a 2012 Filipino romantic drama film starring Angelica Panganiban,
Dingdong Dantes, Zanjoe Marudo and Angel Locsin.
The film was selected as one of the 8 official entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
The film was produced by Star Cinema and released December 25, 2012.
3. Shake, Rattle and Roll 14 : The Invasion
Is a 2012 science fictionhorror film directed by Chito S. Roño.
The film stars an ensemble casts including Janice de Belen, Herbert Bautista,
Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe, Paulo Avelino, Martin Escudero and Vhong Navarro.
The film was produced by Regal Entertainment, Inc.
The film is an official entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival and
the film's scheduled release is on December 25, 2012 in Philippine Cinemas nationwide.
This fourteenth installment also serves as the Most Independent throughout
the entire series for its sole director, Chito S. Roño.
This Installment features the comeback of Janice de Belen and
Herbert Bautista which both starred in past Shake, Rattle and Roll installments,
especially Shake, Rattle and Roll I which included both of them but in different episodes.
This is also the first time to have a horror film to used a Rated GP.
4. Si Agimat, Si Enteng at Si Ako
Is a fantasyaction and comedy film starring Vic Sotto, Bong Revilla, Jr.
and Judy Ann Santos. The film is a crossover of Agimat and Enteng Kabisote film franchise.
It is a joint production by five movie outfits, Octoarts Films, M-zet Productions,
Imus Productions, APT Entertainment and GMA Films.
It is one of the 8 official entries for 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
It will be shown in theaters nationwide on December 25, 2012.
The movie was first announced in early June when it beat the
deadline for the submission of scripts for the aspiring 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival entry.
The press conference and contract signing for the movie was held on June 13, 2012
wherein five local producers signed.
The signing was done at the UCC Café Greenhills and was attended by Orly Ilacad of OctoArts,
Rowena Bautista-Mendiola and Andrea Bautista-Ynares of Imus Productions,
Mr. Tony Tuviera of APT, Vic Sotto of M-Zet and Atty. Annette Gozon-Abrogar of GMA Films.
It was also the time that they revealed that Judy Ann Santos will act as
the leading lady or the Me in the title.
This will be the second movie of Bong Revilla, Jr. and Vic Sotto together
following Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote.
In an interview of Vic Sotto for SunStar,
the challenge for them is to create a bigger and more fun movie for everyone.
He also stated, "...ang pressure namin ni Bong and Juday ngayon,
eh how to put up a very good and enjoyable product and kung papaano namin malalampasan
yung huli naming ginawa(The pressure for us is on how we are going to
surpass what weve done before)," On June 18, 2012 the Metro Manila Development Authority
announced that the film is one of the 8 official entries for the film festival.
The Greater Manila Theater Operators Association selected the 8 film out of 14 through
level of creativity, cultural or historical value, and commercial viability.
5. Sosy Problems
Is a Filipinocomedy film produced by GMA Films and directed by Andoy Ranay.
It stars Rhian Ramos, Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff , and Bianca King.
The film is one of the eight official entries of the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival
which began on December 25, 2012
The film was first announced on May 7, 2012 through GMA Network
as they plan to release new films monthly.
The original casts that was first revealed in Philippine Star was composed of Solenn Heussaff,
Isabelle Daza, Bianca King while the leading men happened
to be Aljur Abrenicaand Mikael Daez.The newest kapuso star,
Benjamin Alves was the latest addition to the cast after signing an exclusive contract
to GMA Network and GMA Films.
Director Mark Reyes was supposed to direct
the film because Dominic Zapata was busy with the Boy Pick-Up:
The Movie, but in May, Director Reyes was replaced by Andoy Ranay.
The script was submitted to the Metro Manila Development Authority to be
reviewed as potential Film Fest entry. On June, the film becomes one of
the 8 official entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
It will have its regular screening starting December 25, 2012.
On September, director Andoy Ranay changed the title from Coño Problems to Sosy Problems.
6. The Strangers
Is a 2012 Filipino teenhorror film directed by Lawrence Fajardo.
It stars Enchong Dee, Julia Montes, Enrique Gil and JM De Guzman.
The film was produced by Quantum Films and MJM Productions and will be distributed
by Star Cinema in December 25, 2012.
It is also one of the official entries for the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival.
The story takes places on a family who got lost in a province and start being hunted by
The Strangers especially the aswang (Enchong Dee)
7. Sisterakas
Is a 2012 Filipino comedy film produced by Star Cinema and
Viva Films and selected as one of the 8 official entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
The film is currently showing nationwide on December 25, 2012.
The film was directed by Wenn V. Deramas and stars an ensemble cast including Ai-Ai Delas Alas,
Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, and Xyriel Manabat.
Sisterakas grosses P40,739,323.25 in a single day upon its nationwide release,
setting off the record as the highest-single day grossing Philippine film of all time.
Bernice (Vice Ganda) & Detty (Ai-Ai Delas Alas) are half siblings who have been
separated during childhood but crossed each other's paths again.
Dettys wealthy family refused to extend any help Bernices family due to
the revelation of the patriarch's infidelity. Years later,
Bernice has become a wealthy and successful businessman dubbed as
"the lord of apparels". But his abrasive personality and rudeness to co-workers has
led to the resignation of his 374th assistant.
This loss prompts his company to look for the new assistant and incidentally,
Detty, who badly needs a job, walks into the building.
Realizing that he is hiring his half-sister, Bernice accepts Detty as
his executive assistant without Detty knowing the truth. For Detty,
the job is for her daughters. But for Bernice, its payback time.
8. Thy Womb (Tagalog: Sinapupunan)
Is a 2012 Filipino drama film starring Nora Aunor, Bembol Roco Mercedes Cabral, and Lovi Poe.
Produced by Center Stage Productions and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP),
Melvin Mangada and Jaime Santiago, the film is written by Henry Burgos and directed
by 2009 Cannes Film Festival Best Director Brillante Mendoza.
The film is one of the 8 official entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
The film competed for the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.
Although it did not bag the top honors, Thy Womb won three special prizes in
the festival — La Navicella Venezia Cinema Award,
the P. Nazareno Taddei Award - Special Mention,
and the Bisato d' Oro Award for Best Actress (for Nora Aunor).
