COCK FIGHTING IN PHILIPPINES
Cockfighting is called "sabong" in Tagalog and is usually
held during Sundays and holidays especially in the provinces.
In the Philippines, curved blades that extend to as long as
three inches are attached to one or both legs of the roosters.
The blades are usually made from high quality steel. There
are rumored human fatalities from accidental cuts and injuries
from these blades while handling the rooster in the cockpits.
Do you know that cockfighting did not started in the
Philippines. It started somewhere else. Because if it did
originate in the Philippines, then why don't we have a
bloodline that is purely Philippine made without the
bloods from America.
If you would compare the Philippine's breed like Zambo
white and Batchoy to the breeds that are called oriental,
they are far from being called oriental gamefowls.
This is because they were deriviations from the cocks
from the United States of America.
These fowls that were bred in the south were island
born chickens from the USA. Countries like Japan, Bahrain,
Pakistan and Vietnam have their own breeds of gamefowls
unlike the Philippines that were all battlecrosses that come
from the States. For example, Asils have short feathers and
big legs that suit the place where they were bred unlike the
"Philippines' bred" chickens that have thick plumage and thin legs.
I therefore conclude that cockfighting never originated in
the Philippines even if it is called the Cockfighting Capital of
the World. The Philippines got this title because the
cockfighting in the Philippines is widespread and the law here
is not strict, every state or city can cockfight anytime and
anywhere!
